When We're Stuck

Coaching can show you what you previously were not able to see. It allows you to take off the blinders and broaden the view of yourself, your situation and your options.

How often do we find ourselves in a situation where we have no idea what to do? Not knowing where to take our career. Struggling to make decisions. Feeling overwhelmed by everyday challenges. You literally cannot see the in’s and out’s. You feel like you’re just running in the dark.

If you let your eyes adjust to the darkness, you may realise that this really is a dead-end. At first this realisation may be scary as you may feel that you are stuck. But taking a minute to become aware of an upcoming brick wall is definitely less painful than running into it at full speed. So let’s take a minute.

Coaching strives to bring light into your current situation. It doesn’t ask you to go backwards, it doesn’t ask you to move forward into something that you clearly know to be a brick wall. By turning on the light, you may be able to perceive alternative doors where previously you believed to be none. The doors represent your strengths or values. In coaching, you become aware of their existence. Suddenly, opening them and moving forward is not scary, but a necessity.

When you do open a door, you might come across a concept, an idea or a world that you never considered while you were hurrying down the black tunnel. It may surprise you, but you’ll recognise it as something that is a perfect fit for you because it was always within you. Coaching just gave you the space to see it.

Final Comment: Your world doesn't need to be black nor rectangular for coaching to benefit you.
