How to get the most out of Coaching
Coaching isn’t something that is done to the client. It is a TEAM effort that relies on both, coach and client, to give their 100%.
T - ogether
We’re in this together.
Everybody’s contribution matters.
The coach is open and honest with client, even if it feels uncomfortable (e.g. when it comes to admitting own short-comings or pointing out hard-to-hear observations).
The client gives feedback on what does or does not work for them in the coaching session, the coaching relationship, or in between coaching sessions.
E - ncourage
Courage = from the heart.
Move from love, not fear.
The coach steps into a space that encourages coach and client to be their most powerful self. The coach helps the client to quiet the self-sabotaging voices coming from fear and avoidance and to move and act from a place of love and purpose.
As the coaching relationship progresses, the client also spends more and more time in the space of encouraging themselves and the people around them to be their best selves.
A - utonomy
The actual change and growth happens in between sessions and outside of the sessions.
The client is willing to practice new ways of being and new ways of doing things in between sessions.
Coach and client work together to enable the client to practice new ways of being and new ways of doing things (Co-Active Coaching) outside of the coaching sessions.
The coach provides the client with tools to navigate these new waters, especially when the practice feels unfamiliar or the client fails to practice. The coach teaches client how to recover from setbacks (Mental Fitness through Positive Intelligence).
M - otivation
Coach and client lean into Together, Encourage, and Autonomy to fuel the Motivation to advance on a new path.
The client takes ownership to show up to sessions on time with a topic to work on or the willingness to explore possible topics during the session.
The coach keeps an eye on factors that may affect motivation that are outside the client’s control. For example: Coach and client not being a good fit. Past or present factors interfering with the client’s ability to let go of old ways and to practice new approaches. The coach can help the client find other providers that might be a better suited for the client’s current needs.
